The Sorceress is a game project I took on to try and learn about making flash games. It's one of the best
experiences I've gone through because I learned so much about programming, animation and pixel art in the
process. After working on it for about a year I realized that I needed to go back and rework a huge chunk of it
in order to progress with it. Feeling a bit burned out on the project, I decided to leave the experience where
it was and move on to other things.
Even though the game is unfinished I'm proud of what is there given that I knew nothing about making games
at the start.
The game was heavily inspired from Castlevania and Actraiser. I enjoy the hack and slash platformers and
have wanted to make one ever since I was a kid. The story was supposed to be about a girl going to stop her
sister, the sorceress, from trying to take over the world.
Known Issues
- Dying is still a bit glitchy. Things don't seem to reset correctly.
- Continuing is a mess.
Things I would have liked to have added
- A boss for the first level. One was being worked on but an untimely hard drive failure and general lack
of time prevented it from ever being included.
- A status bar. Wouldn't it have been nice to know your health and lives? Score was another one of those
things I wanted and never quite got to.
- Different backgrounds. There were supposed to be several different backgrounds throughout the first level.
- Destructables and pick ups. Every platformer needs things to pick up and random unimportant objects
to attack.
- Fix the graphics for the switches and doors. This whole time they've just been placeholder graphics.
